Georgia Technical Colleges Launch Statewide 24/7 Mental Health Portal
The Technical College System of Georgia is rolling out a comprehensive mental health initiative, partnering with the teletherapy provider Uwill to offer 140,000 students immediate, round-the-clock counseling. The move addresses a critical gap in a state where 76% of counties currently face a shortage of mental health professionals.
Commissioner Greg Dozier noted that the system is responding to the dual pressures of modern education and the personal hardships students face. By allowing students to select counselors based on specific language, ethnicity, or area of need, the platform seeks to remove the traditional barriers that often prevent students from seeking help. Gwinnett Technical College, which piloted the program in 2024, reported that the integration of digital tools significantly helped students remain enrolled during periods of intense stress. This expansion aligns with broader state efforts, backed by Governor Brian Kemp, to bolster Georgia's mental health infrastructure as demand for professional support continues to outpace local availability.
