Members from Teamsters Locals 853, 665, 315, and 150 stood on picket lines to protect their jobs and demand industry-standard compensation. The new agreement secures both wage and health benefit increases while preserving the union’s established contract language for the next 12 months. Tom Gesualdi, Director of the Teamsters Building Materials and Construction Trade Division, credited the victory to union militancy and the collective resolve of the workforce.
CalPortland Teamsters Secure New Contract After Two-Week Strike
Two weeks after launching an unfair labor practice strike, more than 350 ready-mix concrete drivers across Northern California have ratified a new one-year agreement with CalPortland. The deal follows a standoff over delayed bargaining dates and company attempts to unilaterally alter existing contract language without union consultation.

Peter Finn, President of Teamsters Joint Council 7, highlighted the importance of external support during the negotiations, specifically noting the involvement of San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie in facilitating the resolution. For veteran driver Gary Kunesh, the rapid conclusion of the strike serves as a testament to the effectiveness of unified labor action, proving that the workforce could successfully force the company back to the table in just fourteen days.
