Australian Payments Giant Pay.com.au Expands to U.S. with $28M Funding

With US$28 million in fresh Series E funding, Australian payments firm Pay.com.au is launching PayRewards in the United States. The platform aims to capture the American small business market by allowing companies to earn loyalty points on commercial expenses—including rent and supplier invoices—that typically yield no rewards.

The expansion follows a period of rapid growth for the parent company, which processed more than US$7 billion in business expenses over the last 12 months, serving 30,000 Australian clients. This represents 100% year-over-year growth for the Sydney-based firm. The new capital brings the company's total funding to US$70 million, positioning it to challenge existing U.S. bill-pay tools that often restrict rewards to card-only transactions.

PayRewards differentiates its service by removing monthly subscription fees, opting instead for a model where businesses pay only when they choose to earn points. By layering its own rewards system on top of existing credit card programs, the platform enables what CEO Blake Hutchison calls a "Double-Dip," allowing owners to maximize returns on necessary overhead. Points can be redeemed for airline and hotel loyalty programs, employee incentives, or credits against future invoices. While the service is live in most U.S. states, it is currently unavailable in Connecticut, Hawaii, New Mexico, South Dakota, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia.
