Melissa & Doug Reimagines Dollhouse Play with Modular Cheery Lane

After a rapid sell-out during its early release, Melissa & Doug has launched Cheery Lane, a modular play collection designed to solve the physical limitations of traditional dollhouses. By shifting to an open-top, multi-angle design, the brand aims to make imaginative play more accessible for toddlers and preschoolers.

The collection centers on the observation that children often struggle to maneuver figures and furniture within the confines of standard, open-front dollhouses. By creating a layout that allows kids to reach down into their creations from above, the company seeks to remove physical barriers to storytelling. These modular sets feature a mix of wood and textured materials, designed to support fine motor skills and social-emotional development in children as young as two years old.

Lauren DeFeo Duchene, President of Melissa & Doug and EVP at Spin Master, noted that the design shift was a direct response to watching how children naturally interact with their toys. The new line includes several configurations, such as the flagship house set with hinged rooms, various restaurant themes, and vehicle sets. Each kit incorporates articulated Cheeries play figures capable of sitting or standing, encouraging kids to build custom scenarios. The collection is now available through major retailers including Amazon, Walmart, and Target.
