The barometer, which surveyed 402 producers between August 10 and 14, shows a significant 11-point jump in the Index of Future Expectations, while the Index of Current Conditions remained largely stagnant with only a 1-point increase. US Farmer Confidence Rebounds as Future Outlook Brightens
For the first time since June 2025, American farmers are projecting a more favorable financial future than the current reality. The latest Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer reveals an uptick in sentiment to 135 in August, fueled by improved expectations for export growth and long-term operational stability.

Strategic planning has emerged as a central theme in the data. Michael Langemeier, director of Purdue’s Center for Commercial Agriculture, noted that producers are shifting their focus toward long-term skill development. Among respondents, 32% identified artificial intelligence as a key tool for enhancing financial management and strategic planning, areas where many operators feel they need the most improvement. While confidence in farmland values rose to 127, the Farm Capital Investment Index dipped to 45, suggesting a cautious approach to new equipment or land acquisitions despite the overall shift toward optimism.
