Filevine Launches Anti-Hallucination Tools for Legal Research
Courts are sanctioning attorneys nationwide for AI-generated errors that cost careers and compromise trials. To combat this, Filevine has introduced a new citator and anti-hallucination suite within its LOIS platform, designed to verify the existence, accuracy, and legal standing of every citation in an attorney's brief before filing.
In internal testing against 68 federal filings previously sanctioned for fabricated or misused authority, the LOIS system identified 174 severe errors across 2,073 citations. Furthermore, in a head-to-head comparison, the tool successfully detected 14 cases where holdings had been overruled by opinions that did not explicitly cite the original case—a nuance missed by competing services like Westlaw’s KeyCite and Lexis’ Shepard’s. CEO Ryan Anderson plans to demonstrate these capabilities on September 10, highlighting the shift from reactive discovery to proactive verification.
