These selections emerged from a competitive field of 64 total entries evaluated through rigorous head-to-head tournament play in Wakefield, Rhode Island.
The annual competition, hosted by CigarOfTheYear.com and ValueCigarOfTheYear.com, utilized a bracket-style format to narrow down over 100 candidates to a final field of 32 in each division. The premium category saw the Fuente Fuente OpusX Angel's Share take runner-up, followed by the Liga Privada T52 and E.P. Carrillo Encore Majestic. The remaining Grand 8 included entries from Davidoff, My Father Cigars, and Oliva.
In the value-focused competition, restricted to cigars with an MSRP of $9 or less, the Oliva Serie G Robusto earned second place, with the Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente Natural rounding out the top three. The Aganorsa Leaf New Cuba Corojo Robusto reached the final round, alongside contenders from Charter Oak, La Gloria Cubana, Partagás, and Rocky Patel.
Beyond tournament standings, the editorial team awarded Master Ashologist honors to recognize specific performance traits. The Liga Privada T52 and the Oliva Serie G Robusto were selected for these distinctions, which utilize the proprietary Ashology evaluation method to assess construction, draw, and consistency. According to the organizers, these winners demonstrated the balance and finish required to survive a demanding, multi-round elimination process.
