The Qidong plant, which reached mechanical completion in April 2026, began outputting Xatryx bioTHF and bioPTMEG series products in August. According to Chairman You Feifeng, the facility hit quality specifications across three molecular weight grades—1000, 1800, and 2000—within four months of commissioning. This rapid scale-up is intended to position the material as a drop-in replacement for fossil-based PTMEG in sectors including spandex and polyurethane production.
CovationBio Targets Footwear Market with New Bio-Based Material
Covation Biomaterials has launched commercial production of its Xatryx bio-based materials at a new facility in Qidong, China. The company is now moving to bridge the gap between industrial feedstock and consumer goods, debuting an athletic insole developed alongside industry partner INSITE at the NW Materials Show in Portland.
At the Portland event, the collaboration with INSITE serves to showcase the material’s real-world utility. By utilizing non-food biomass such as agricultural corncob by-products, CovationBio aims to lower greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining compatibility with existing manufacturing lines. Dr. Zhao Mosha, Global Marketing Director for the company’s C4 platform, noted that the transition from raw material production to a consumer-facing footwear component took only weeks, signaling a shift toward rapid commercial adoption of sustainable feedstocks.
