The new collection, dubbed GapBag, reimagines the brand’s iconic wardrobe staples for the accessories aisle. Designs include a "Five-Pocket Tote" that mimics the stitching and belt loops of classic jeans, alongside a "Hoodie Tote" constructed from fleece with signature drawstring closures. These pieces represent a deliberate effort by CEO Richard Dickson to move the company beyond selling basic apparel toward establishing a distinct, conviction-led presence in the accessories sector.
Gap Targets $15 Billion Accessory Market with New Handbag Line
Gap is pivoting from its denim-and-fleece roots to capture a share of the $15 billion handbag market, recruiting former Coach creative leader Reed Krakoff to anchor its latest revival strategy. The retailer aims to transform its signature apparel textures into a collection of totes and crossbodies launching September 8.

This expansion follows a period of corporate instability and a recent 10% rise in comparable sales for the quarter ending August 1. By leveraging Krakoff’s experience—hired as executive director of accessories in 2025—the company is betting that high-visibility design can translate its recent cultural momentum into long-term growth. Pricing for the new line spans from $29.95 to $148, with a limited-edition patchwork denim tote priced at $498. The initiative serves as a litmus test for whether Gap can successfully convert its revitalized brand image into a sustainable, multi-category retail powerhouse.
