The event, scheduled for Friday, September 11, asks participants to scale approximately 2,071 steps—the equivalent height of the World Trade Center towers. Fitness Ventures, the largest Crunch Fitness franchisee in the U.S., expects between 5,000 and 8,000 people to take part. Many firefighters are slated to complete the climb in full gear, mirroring the physical toll faced by the FDNY personnel they are honoring.

On the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Fitness Ventures is mobilizing more than 100 local fire departments and thousands of gym-goers for a nationwide tribute. The company’s 106 participating Crunch Fitness locations will challenge members and community participants to climb 110 flights of stairs in honor of first responders.

This year’s participation marks a significant increase from the 71 locations involved in the previous year. Brian Hibbard, CEO of Fitness Ventures, noted that the scale of the effort aims to create a unified moment of reflection across 30 states. Local departments, such as the Amarillo Fire Department in Texas, have partnered with the gym chain to provide a consistent space for community remembrance. While the full 110-flight climb remains the primary goal, the event is open to all fitness levels, allowing non-members to participate at their own pace.
