The data, commissioned by mental health service provider Uwill, reveals a stark generational divide in how students process emotional distress. While only 12% of college seniors rely on AI for weekly emotional guidance, 26% of high school seniors do. Many cite a lack of human connection, with 21% of high school respondents admitting they use AI simply because they have no one else to talk to.
Erin Andrew, vice president of clinical affairs at Uwill, warns that universities are inheriting a significant mental health crisis. Beyond emotional instability, students are grappling with profound uncertainty about their professional futures. Nearly half of all college seniors identify job prospects as a primary stressor, a figure that climbs to 55% among undergraduate men. Financial pressure further compounds these anxieties, with 39% of college seniors working more than 21 hours per week to stay afloat.
