Panama City Beach’s Post 402 secured second place with a parade featuring reenactors of the Founding Fathers, while Jacksonville’s Post 9 earned third for its large-scale Boots on the Ground fundraising activation.
Florida Legion Posts Honored for Semiquincentennial Community Projects
Seven Florida American Legion posts earned top honors in the Sunshine State 250 Showdown for creative initiatives celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. The awards, presented by the nonprofit 1 Nation during the American Legion National Convention in Louisville, highlight local efforts to foster civic unity and patriotism across the state.
Additional recognition went to posts in Margate, Seminole, Fernandina Beach, and Madison for their community engagement. According to 1 Nation President Charles Fowler, these projects demonstrate a sustained commitment to national service. The winning posts will receive a share of a $20,000 prize pool, earmarked for facility improvements and mission-aligned upgrades. This initiative marks a significant effort by the Department of Florida to localize the national semiquincentennial celebrations.
