Founded in 2015 at the Stanford d.school, Wayfinder provides structured lessons designed to help students navigate uncertainty and build core competencies like empathy and agency. An independent study by Stanford researcher Dr. Heather Malin linked the curriculum to an 11-fold increase in purpose among students, alongside significant gains in social awareness and school engagement. In one notable case, Des Moines Public Schools reported that chronic absenteeism fell by half after implementing the program.
Lemnis CEO Melissa Johnston stated that the acquisition is driven by the urgent need to provide young people with human-centric skills relevant to an unpredictable job market. Wayfinder founder Patrick Cook-Deegan noted that the shift to a nonprofit model allows the organization to focus on long-term impact rather than shareholder demands. This deal marks the third acquisition for Lemnis in eight months, following their purchase of InsideTrack and the AI-focused support platform Mainstay.
