The infrastructure relies on the Model Context Protocol and Universal Commerce Protocol to bridge natural-language user requests with tangible shopping cart actions. Rather than exposing sensitive financial data, the system utilizes the AEON AI Card, which integrates with existing Visa and Mastercard networks. This allows for controlled, task-specific spending limits, ensuring that agents operate within predefined financial boundaries.
AEON Debuts Agentic Checkout to Automate E-commerce Payments
Hong Kong-based settlement layer AEON has unveiled Agentic Checkout, a system designed to allow AI agents to navigate e-commerce platforms like Shopify and Amazon autonomously. By utilizing a specialized AI Card, the platform enables agents to execute purchases while keeping user payment credentials and primary treasury wallets isolated from the transaction.
Integration with Shopify grants these agents access to over three million storefronts globally, covering categories from electronics to apparel. Future expansions are slated to include Amazon and travel platforms like Travala. To maintain security, full payment details are excluded from model context logs, and the system includes verification protocols to prevent duplicate charges. AEON, which has processed more than $514 million in volume, positions this technology as a necessary financial layer for the growing autonomous economy, enabling agents to complete transactions in both digital and physical markets.
