Aberdeen Taps Finloop to Tokenize Private Market Assets in Hong Kong

Aberdeen Investments has appointed Finloop Finance as a distributor for its Global Private Markets strategy, marking a shift toward digital delivery. By leveraging tokenized interests, the asset manager aims to provide professional investors in Hong Kong streamlined access to private equity, credit, infrastructure, real estate, and natural resources.

Managing over 77 billion pounds in alternative assets, Aberdeen is accelerating its digital distribution strategy. This move follows previous collaborations with Archax, including a 2023 initiative involving tokenized money market funds and the use of digital units as collateral for foreign exchange trades with Lloyds Banking Group.

While the industry increasingly views blockchain as a gateway to historically opaque private markets, the transition remains complex. Critics, including Algebra co-founder Vladimir Tikhomirov, caution that tokenization does not automatically resolve underlying liquidity constraints, highlighting a persistent tension between technological accessibility and the actual tradeability of the underlying assets.
