Therrien transitions to the Vienna-based company following a tenure as Chief Commercial Officer at Ultima Genomics. His resume includes senior leadership roles at Illumina, Life Technologies, and RainDance Technologies, where he oversaw the market entry of multiplex genotyping and digital PCR platforms. At Ribbon Bio, he will focus on scaling the adoption of the MiroMine kit, a tool designed to integrate the company’s assembly algorithms directly into existing customer laboratory workflows.
Ribbon Bio Taps Genomics Veteran Jay Therrien as Chief Business Officer
After two decades scaling commercial operations in the genomics sector, Jay Therrien has joined Ribbon Bio to lead the company’s expansion strategy. His appointment arrives as the firm pushes to displace traditional plasmid-based cloning with its proprietary cell-free DNA synthesis technology and new diagnostic kits.

CEO Jodi Barrientos noted that Therrien’s experience will be central to the company’s objective of moving the industry away from bacterial-mediated DNA production. Unlike legacy methods, Ribbon’s cell-free approach avoids endotoxin contamination and bypasses the constraints of traditional cloning. Therrien emphasized that the MiroMine system is particularly disruptive because it functions without the need for specialized capital equipment, allowing labs to synthesize high-fidelity DNA constructs on-site.
