Quantinuum Secures $100 Million CHIPS Grant for Quantum Manufacturing
Quantinuum has finalized a $100 million agreement with the U.S. Department of Commerce, becoming the only trapped-ion quantum computing developer to receive funding under the CHIPS and Science Act. The capital aims to accelerate domestic semiconductor manufacturing and supply chain resilience for fault-tolerant quantum hardware.

To achieve this, the company is onboarding domestic partners to stabilize its supply chain. GlobalFoundries will handle the fabrication of next-generation ion traps using 300mm wafer technology, while Monarch Quantum will focus on the manufacturing of reliable lasers and optical components. Dr. Rajeeb Hazra, CEO of Quantinuum, stated that the partnership creates a foundation to scale fault-tolerant systems domestically. By shifting production to established semiconductor foundries, the company expects to enhance component reproducibility and system reliability, moving closer to the widespread commercial deployment of its trapped-ion architecture.
