At Auburn University, the boundary between the classroom and the pitcher’s mound is vanishing. Through the College of Education’s Sports Medicine and Movement Lab, student researchers are utilizing markerless motion-capture technology to analyze every pitch and swing, turning raw statistical data into actionable insights for the university’s baseball program.

This partnership has drawn national attention, especially following Auburn Baseball's successful 2026 season. Beyond immediate performance gains, the lab serves as a professional pipeline, with alumni securing roles in Major League Baseball organizations like the Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres, and Texas Rangers. By bridging the gap between complex biomechanics and real-world coaching, the program aims to prolong athletic careers and mitigate the long-term physical toll of repetitive stress on pitchers and hitters.
