University of Benghazi Reopens After Decade-Long Hiatus
The University of Benghazi has officially resumed operations across all faculties, marking the end of an eleven-year closure caused by war-related destruction. The restoration, led by the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, breathes life back into the country's largest academic institution, which serves nearly 100,000 students.
The inauguration ceremony, attended by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar and international delegations, served as a high-profile showcase of the project’s completion. The event featured a drone display that secured three Guinness World Records, including an eagle formation and a choreographed aerial depiction of the university's name. Beyond physical reconstruction, the Fund has expanded its scope by sponsoring over 1,000 students for international study, aiming to integrate infrastructure development with human capital investment.
