Onuekwusi will now oversee the firm’s Investment Directorate, managing strategy, fund governance, platform innovation, and discretionary fund management through SJP Investment Management. His appointment follows a tenure as chief investment officer, a role he assumed in October 2023 after a decade at Legal & General Investment Management. With over 20 years of industry experience, including positions at Aviva Investors and Merrill Lynch, he is tasked with scaling the firm’s investment capabilities.
Justin Onuekwusi Appointed Permanent CEO of Investments at SJP
After serving in an interim capacity since January, Justin Onuekwusi has been named the permanent CEO of Investments at UK wealth manager St James’s Place. He succeeds Tom Beal, who departs the firm following a period of compassionate leave, and joins the Group Executive Committee effective immediately.

The leadership transition arrives during a period of growth for the company. The Polaris range, a central pillar of the firm’s offering, surpassed £100 billion in assets by March 2026. Recent half-year results highlighted robust client performance, with annualised investment returns reaching 16.4 percent of opening funds under management. Mark FitzPatrick, CEO of St James’s Place, credited Onuekwusi with strengthening the firm’s investment proposition, noting his rapid emergence as a leader within the organization.
