The conversions include the abrdn Ultra Short Municipal Income Active ETF (AMUN) and the abrdn International Small Cap Active ETF (ASCI). Jonathan Mondillo and Miguel Laranjeiro will co-manage the municipal income fund, while Kirsty Desson and Liam Patel oversee the international small-cap strategy. Awais Khan, the firm's head of ETF portfolio management, joins both teams as a portfolio manager to provide additional oversight.
Aberdeen Expands US ETF Platform via Mutual Fund Conversions
UK-based investment manager abrdn has converted two of its mutual funds into fully transparent exchange-traded funds, a strategic shift that coincides with the firm’s US ETF franchise crossing the $18 billion mark in total assets under management for the first time in its history.
Alongside these conversions, abrdn is merging the abrdn China A Share Equity Fund (GOPIX) and the abrdn Focused Emerging Markets ex-China Fund (GLLSX) into the existing abrdn Emerging Markets Dividend Active ETF (AGEM). This consolidation reflects a broader effort to streamline offerings and prioritize cost-efficient investment vehicles for US clients. The firm’s expansion into active ETFs remains a core priority, mirroring similar product developments within their European division, which recently introduced thematic funds focused on real estate, raw materials, and global supply chains.
