The piece utilized industrial robotic arms alongside dancers and digital projections to examine the friction and synchronization between biological rhythm and machine logic. Beyond the stage, Chen presented the 798 Art District as a primary model for China’s evolving art-and-technology ecosystem during the festival’s Expanded Conference.

Beijing’s 798 Art District made its inaugural appearance at the 2026 Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, signaling a shift toward global integration for China’s contemporary art scene. The participation centered on the intersection of machine agency and human movement, aiming to solidify long-term cross-disciplinary collaboration between Eastern philosophy and global technological systems.
Following the festival, 798 launched the Multidisciplinary Residency Program in partnership with BOUNDED SPACE. The inaugural theme, Pre / Sense, invites international creative collectives and electronic musicians to engage with the district’s industrial environment. By moving beyond one-off exhibitions, the district intends to establish a permanent framework for academic and artistic exchange, fostering experiments that bridge traditional cultural boundaries with emerging fields like artificial intelligence and robotics.
