The race, held at OneLife Fitness, invites participants to compete in a 5K course or a one-mile fun run. Beyond the competition, the event funds a wide array of activities including wheelchair basketball, rugby, tennis, and sled hockey. These programs offer more than just physical training; they provide coaching, specialized equipment, and a supportive community for individuals navigating recovery.
SuperH 5K Returns to Tysons to Fund Adaptive Sports Programs
For the 23rd consecutive year, the SuperH 5K Run, Walk & Wheel returns to Tysons, Virginia, on September 20. Founded by former patient Harry Freedman and his wife Renie, the event serves as the primary fundraiser for MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital’s adaptive sports programs, which provide free services to patients recovering from life-altering injuries.

Harsh Thakkar, director of community engagement at MedStar Health, emphasized that the initiative creates a vital, inclusive space for patients. The impact is echoed by families like the Icocheas, who credit the program with fostering independence and confidence for their son, Adrian. Over its two-decade history, the SuperH initiative has surpassed $1 million in total donations. Organizers have set a fundraising goal of $150,000 for this year’s installment, which concludes with a post-race celebration featuring live music and community activities.
