Scania G-series and R-series earn five-star Euro NCAP safety ratings

Scania’s G-series and R-series have secured five-star ratings in the latest Euro NCAP haulage assessment, driven by a 96 percent score in crash avoidance technology. The results underscore the manufacturer's commitment to integrating advanced driver assistance systems across its long-haul and regional transport vehicle lineups.

The assessment evaluated a range of configurations, including the R-series 4x2 and 6x2 tractor and rigid units, alongside the G-series equivalents. Central to these high marks is a suite of safety features designed to mitigate risks in highway operations. Technologies such as Speed Sign Cruise Control, Curve speed Cruise Control, and Safe Stop Assist provide critical support for drivers navigating complex transport environments.

Euro NCAP specifically recognized the R-series for its performance in collision avoidance, highlighting the effectiveness of its Autonomous Emergency Braking and camera monitor systems in protecting vulnerable road users. Meanwhile, the G-series earned praise for its balanced safety profile, utilizing a lower cab design and deep windows to enhance direct visibility in mixed traffic. Both series also received the City Safe Award, further validating Scania’s modular approach to engineering safety across its heavy vehicle range.

Lars Gustafsson, Head of Trucks at Scania, emphasized that the company’s safety strategy centers on providing a familiar, controlled environment for operators, regardless of the specific transport assignment. Matthew Avery, Director for Strategic Development at Euro NCAP, noted that Scania continues to push industry standards forward, encouraging the adoption of advanced safety technologies across the heavy-duty sector.
