LexisNexis Integrates Identity Verification into Epic MyChart

The new integration allows U.S. health systems using Epic electronic health records to deploy modular identity verification tools directly through the Epic Connection Hub. By bypassing the need for custom development, providers can implement layered security measures—such as biometrics, phone association, and email intelligence—that adapt based on the risk level of specific patient interactions. Brad Bauer, senior vice president at LexisNexis Risk Solutions, noted that static identity checks are no longer sufficient as patient portals increasingly handle sensitive tasks like medical record access and financial payments.

Beyond basic password protection, the suite utilizes artificial intelligence to analyze identity events across broad data sets. This approach aims to defend against sophisticated threats including synthetic identity fraud and deepfake-enabled impersonations. Because the toolkit is configurable, hospitals can maintain simplified access for routine portal visits while triggering more rigorous verification for high-risk actions, effectively balancing organizational security with the user experience expected by patients.
