His mandate includes overseeing the group’s integrated network of 13 facilities across Europe, North America, and Asia, which currently employs roughly 3,500 staff. Before his four-year stint as CEO at Hovione, Herbeaux held senior leadership positions at the specialty chemicals firm Evonik.
CordenPharma Names Jean-Luc Herbeaux CEO to Lead Next Growth Phase
CordenPharma has appointed former Hovione chief Jean-Luc Herbeaux as its new CEO, effective October 1, 2026. He succeeds Michael Quirmbach, who guided the pharmaceutical contract manufacturer through a decade of rapid expansion, growing annual revenues from €245 million to over €1 billion during his twelve-year tenure.
Quirmbach will not fully depart the organization, transitioning instead to the roles of Board Member and Senior Advisor. His continued presence is intended to provide strategic continuity as the company navigates its next development stage under the backing of private equity firm Astorg. The transition follows a period of aggressive investment in manufacturing capacity and global footprint expansion for the Basel-based CDMO.
