The company acknowledged Vélez Galeano’s tenure by highlighting his focus on environmental stewardship and his efforts to bridge the gap between the corporation and local communities. Hildebrando Vélez Galeano Resigns from Ecopetrol Board
Hildebrando Vélez Galeano has stepped down from the Board of Directors at Ecopetrol S.A., effective September 15, 2026. The announcement, confirmed by the company on Sunday, marks an immediate change for the leadership of Colombia’s largest integrated energy firm, which continues to manage extensive operations across the Americas.

Ecopetrol remains a dominant force in the Colombian economy, overseeing more than 60% of the nation’s hydrocarbon production. Beyond its core oil and gas operations, the firm manages significant interests in energy transmission, telecommunications, and infrastructure through its stake in ISA. While the company maintains active exploration projects in the Permian basin, the Gulf of Mexico, Brazil, and Peru, it warned that future growth remains subject to market volatility, regulatory shifts, and global commodity price fluctuations.
