Hildebrando Vélez Galeano Resigns from Ecopetrol Board

The company acknowledged Vélez Galeano’s tenure by highlighting his focus on environmental stewardship and his efforts to bridge the gap between the corporation and local communities. Despite the departure, Ecopetrol confirmed that its board retains the necessary quorum to continue deliberating and making executive decisions under current corporate by-laws.

Ecopetrol remains a dominant force in the Colombian economy, overseeing more than 60% of the nation’s hydrocarbon production. Beyond its core oil and gas operations, the firm manages significant interests in energy transmission, telecommunications, and infrastructure through its stake in ISA. While the company maintains active exploration projects in the Permian basin, the Gulf of Mexico, Brazil, and Peru, it warned that future growth remains subject to market volatility, regulatory shifts, and global commodity price fluctuations.
