The hiring marks a significant move for OutKick, which continues to position itself at the center of the cultural debate regarding biological males in women's athletics. Tommy Firth, Editorial Executive Vice President of FOX News Digital, cited Calkins’ reputation for authenticity and common sense as primary factors in the decision. Calkins brings over a decade of experience from The Seattle Times, where he covered major events including the World Cup and the Super Bowl.
Matt Calkins Joins OutKick Following Seattle Times Resignation
After resigning from The Seattle Times in August, veteran columnist Matt Calkins has officially joined the multimedia sports platform OutKick. Calkins, a three-time National Sports Columnist of the Year, departed his previous post following a dispute over the editorial rejection of his piece regarding transgender athletes in women’s sports.
This personnel change arrives alongside broader growth for the platform. OutKick recently integrated as the official sports brand of FOX News Digital and expanded its programming with the addition of host Craig Carton. According to Comscore, the platform reached a record 13 million unique visitors in August 2026, reflecting a 179% increase compared to the previous year.
