Laminar Joins L'Oréal’s Sustainability Accelerator to Refine Manufacturing

Selected from nearly 1,000 global applicants, Boston-based startup Laminar has secured a spot in the second cohort of L’AcceleratOR. The physical AI company will work alongside L’Oréal and the University of Cambridge to deploy automated, water-efficient manufacturing technologies across the beauty giant's production facilities.

Laminar specializes in "Process-Aware Autonomy," a category of physical AI designed to retrofit existing factory infrastructure. By utilizing patented sensors and machine learning models, the system creates a digital fingerprint of internal fluid flows, allowing factories to adjust chemical, water, and energy usage in real-time. This dynamic approach moves beyond static, pre-programmed automation to improve overall resource efficiency.

Ezgi Barcenas, Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer at L’Oréal, noted that the program aims to blend entrepreneurial ingenuity with the company's global scale. For Laminar CEO Annie Lu, the partnership represents a chance to apply industrial-grade water resilience to the beauty sector, mirroring the performance gains already seen in the food and beverage industry. Laminar currently reports average reductions of 20% in chemical and water usage for clients such as AB InBev, Coca-Cola, and Danone.

The L’AcceleratOR initiative, backed by a €100 million commitment over five years, functions as a launchpad for scalable environmental solutions. Laminar’s inclusion follows a string of industry accolades, including the 2026 FoodTech Innovation Award and recognition as a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer. The startup, which operates out of Greentown Labs in Somerville, Massachusetts, will now begin pilot projects to test its autonomy stack within L'Oréal’s complex production environments.
