San Juan Regional Medical Center Cuts Bed Turnaround Times with Oracle

Bed-assignment times at San Juan Regional Medical Center have dropped by nearly 40 percent following a digital overhaul of its patient flow systems. By integrating new Oracle Health tools and Optum advisory services, the Farmington-based nonprofit is now synchronizing its clinical operations and environmental services in real time.

The medical center, which serves the Four Corners region, previously struggled with fragmented coordination between its bed management and environmental service departments. This lack of centralized visibility often delayed patient movement and complicated operational planning. To resolve these bottlenecks, the hospital deployed the Oracle Health Command Center Dashboard, Patient Flow, and Transfer Center solutions.

Early performance data one month after the transition indicates substantial gains. Bed-assignment time fell from 54 minutes to 33 minutes, a 38.9 percent improvement. Simultaneously, environmental services response times saw a 48.5 percent reduction, dropping from nearly 50 minutes to just over 25 minutes. According to physician informatics executive Dr. Carlo Hallak, these changes allow clinical teams to improve discharge readiness and accelerate the turnover of beds for incoming patients.
