Beijing Summit Charts Future for International Commercial Arbitration

The summit, organized by the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) alongside UNCITRAL and other legal bodies, served as the focal point for the 14th China Arbitration Week. Nie Wenhui of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade urged the industry to modernize, advocating for institutional innovation and a more inclusive ecosystem capable of adapting to rapid technological shifts.

Representing the judiciary, Supreme People's Court Vice President Gao Xiaoli emphasized a commitment to maintaining an arbitration-friendly environment through refined judicial oversight. UNCITRAL Secretary Anna Joubin-Bret marked the occasion by highlighting the 60th anniversary of the UN body and the 70th anniversary of CIETAC, specifically noting the latter’s contributions to evolving standards for electronic awards and artificial intelligence.

Beyond discussions, the commission unveiled 12 representative cases under the Belt and Road initiative, covering sectors from mining to rail infrastructure. To further bridge international practices, CIETAC finalized new cooperation agreements with institutions in Africa, Kyrgyzstan, and Vietnam, focusing on information sharing and the synchronization of hearing facilities.
