The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has formally launched the environmental review process for the Arctic project in northwestern Alaska, issuing a Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement. This milestone initiates public scoping for the high-grade copper-zinc-lead-gold-silver deposit operated by the Ambler Metals joint venture.
Ambler Metals, a 50/50 partnership between Trilogy Metals and South32, submitted its permit application under the Clean Water Act in April 2026. Current projections set the release of a draft Environmental Impact Statement for October 2027, with a final Record of Decision targeted for September 2028. This accelerated 29-month timeline contrasts with historical baselines for similar federal environmental reviews. Trilogy CEO Tony Giardini noted that the disciplined coordination underscores the project's strategic importance in securing domestic supplies of critical minerals.
