The new OptiShare units utilize paired duplex LC interfaces in 2×FR4 configurations, eliminating the need for complex breakout cabling. The OPX4D-SM model supports four devices under test, while the OPX8D-SM accommodates eight, with custom builds scaling to 32 connections. These switches operate exclusively at the physical optical layer, ensuring protocol and bit-rate transparency without the latency associated with electrical signal regeneration or packet processing.
Echola Systems Targets AI Data Center Bottlenecks with New Optical Switches
San Jose-based Echola Systems has launched the OPX4D-SM and OPX8D-SM dual LC optical switches, designed to automate resource sharing for 800G and 1.6T network testing. By allowing engineers to rotate expensive test equipment across multiple devices, the hardware addresses the escalating costs and manual labor inherent in validating massive GPU clusters.

Engineers can manage these connections via an HTTPS web interface, SSH command-line tools, or REST APIs. This integration capability allows laboratories to synchronize fiber switching with automated regression testing cycles. By replacing manual patching with remote, software-defined routing, the company aims to improve equipment utilization for manufacturers and research facilities struggling to keep pace with the rapid deployment of high-speed AI networking hardware.
