Century Lithium Targets Standalone Chlor-Alkali Plant to Boost Supply

The proposed facility is designed to produce chlorine, hydrochloric acid, and sodium hydroxide, targeting an initial output of 300 short tons per day with the potential to double that capacity based on regional demand. By establishing this infrastructure, Century Lithium intends to create a self-sustaining revenue stream while reducing supply chain risks for its primary lithium operations in Esmeralda County, Nevada.

Bill Willoughby, President and CEO of Century Lithium, noted that the plant serves as a strategic move to train an operating team and stabilize reagent availability. While the project is intended to support the Angel Island site, the company is structuring the chlor-alkali facility as a standalone industrial asset. It will be financed independently to minimize shareholder dilution, utilizing potential vendor financing, institutional equity, and government programs dedicated to domestic critical minerals.

Site selection is currently underway, with the company evaluating candidates based on proximity to rail, power, and essential feedstock. The company has not yet finalized property acquisitions or secured definitive construction financing. Following site selection, Century Lithium plans to initiate front-end engineering and design alongside the permitting process, while continuing to vet long-lead electrical equipment to avoid potential scheduling constraints.
