As legal firms increasingly integrate automation into their core workflows, the online college Campus has introduced an Associate of Arts in Paralegal Studies. The American Bar Association-approved program aims to train students in verifying AI-generated research and legal documentation to meet modern industry demands for precision and ethical oversight.
Melissa Brooks, director of legal studies at Campus, notes that while the core responsibilities of a paralegal remain unchanged, the rise of automation has increased the need for human judgment. Graduates will emerge with a professional portfolio and the qualifications to sit for both Westlaw Legal Research and Clio Certified Administrator exams. Designed for career changers and aspiring law students, the program utilizes a cohort-based model supported by faculty from institutions such as MIT and UCLA, backed by investors including Sam Altman and General Catalyst.
