The report highlights Ameren’s role as a primary driver of local investment, noting $2.5 billion in expenditures with in-state vendors and approximately $1 billion in state and local tax contributions throughout the year. Beyond operational spending, the company facilitated over $3.6 billion in planned investments by external firms it engaged, which are projected to create more than 3,700 additional jobs.
Ameren operations drive $25.9 billion in regional economic output
A new study by HR&A Advisors reveals that Ameren Corporation’s infrastructure and development initiatives supported 63,000 jobs across Missouri and Illinois in 2025. The utility provider generated $25.9 billion in total economic output, underscoring the critical link between reliable energy systems and regional business expansion.

Energy reliability remains a central factor in these gains, according to company leadership. Aaron Melda, chairman and president of Ameren Missouri, described the utility as a catalyst for growth, emphasizing that infrastructure investments directly strengthen local economies and attract new industries. Patrick Smith, chairman and president of Ameren Illinois, echoed this sentiment, arguing that consistent energy access provides communities with a distinct competitive advantage in a crowded market. As regional energy demand climbs, the study suggests that ongoing grid and natural gas system improvements will be essential to maintaining this trajectory and meeting future industrial needs.
