Andrew Schwartz and Bhavik Patel, the duo behind the Toast-acquired xtraCHEF, are returning to the restaurant technology sector with a new venture. Their startup, Tandem, leverages AI agents to integrate with existing restaurant software, aiming to automate administrative tasks and streamline operations across 100 pilot locations.
Restaurateur Michael Schulson has joined the project as a Founding Partner to ensure the product addresses real-world challenges faced by kitchen and front-of-house teams. Schulson, who oversees the Schulson Collective, will guide product strategy to ensure the AI focuses on high-value workflows rather than adding complexity to the current tech stack. By building agents that operate within existing digital ecosystems, the founders intend to reduce the manual labor currently required to manage restaurant business processes.
