Odyssey Logistics cuts modernization costs by 37% using autonomous AI

Modernizing legacy technology often stalls due to engineering shortages and year-long timelines, but the collaboration between Cognizant and Cognition offers a new blueprint. At Odyssey Logistics, the challenge involved moving critical business logic from outdated Microsoft Access and Visual Basic forms into the new OdysseyONE platform. A seven-person Cognizant team utilized Devin to handle the heavy lifting, generating code, testing suites, and deployment pipelines while maintaining human oversight for every architectural decision.

This approach proved its viability during an initial 21-day pilot, providing the confidence required to transition the full transportation management system. By integrating Devin into the engineering loop, the team improved delivery throughput by approximately one-third compared to traditional rewrite methods. For Maneet Singh, CIO and CDO at Odyssey Logistics, the project validates a strategy where AI handles complex migration tasks, allowing human engineers to focus on high-value business outcomes rather than manual code conversion. Cognizant, which has trained over 3,000 associates on the platform, now plans to scale this model across security remediation and application maintenance projects.
