Equifax Debuts Real-Time Signal Scores to Counter Automated Fraud

Equifax is rolling out Signal Score for Email and Signal Score for Device, two intelligence tools designed to help retailers and financial institutions neutralize automated fraud. By analyzing non-public data in real time, these solutions aim to block synthetic identities and account takeovers before transactions are finalized.

Equifax Debuts Real-Time Signal Scores to Counter Automated Fraud

Traditional fraud detection often relies on static databases that struggle to identify sophisticated tactics like VPN-based location spoofing and script-driven account farming. The new Equifax offerings bypass these blind spots by linking digital session behaviors directly to verified consumer profiles. Ajay Guru, Senior Vice President of Identity and Fraud Services, noted that businesses can no longer depend on historical snapshots to secure digital platforms, necessitating a shift toward immediate, actionable trust scores.

These tools integrate into existing fraud prevention stacks via APIs, allowing companies to evaluate risk at high-stakes entry points such as new account sign-ups and online checkouts. Signal Score for Email assesses the age and risk history of an address, while Signal Score for Device validates the hardware, network information, and location of the user’s computer or phone. By filtering out high-risk actors early, organizations can maintain seamless experiences for legitimate customers while reducing the overhead of manual security reviews.
