TurfMutt Foundation Debuts Second Nature Digital Series

A freshly launched digital series, Second Nature, is turning the lens on domestic landscapes to demonstrate how purposeful green spaces serve as vital infrastructure for families and pets. Produced with Chronicle Cinema, the project explores the transition of ordinary yards into functional ecosystems that support both mental well-being and environmental health.

The debut episode follows homeowners Joe and Katie Newland as they overhaul a bare, runoff-prone lot into a multi-use sanctuary. The renovation addresses specific household needs, including a sensory-friendly retreat for their daughter, Amelia, and a secure environment for their dog, Meatloaf. By prioritizing design that balances aesthetics with utility, the series aims to show that residential yards act as more than just property borders—they are active contributors to community health.

Kris Kiser, President and CEO of the TurfMutt Foundation, noted that the initiative seeks to translate the organization’s long-standing mission of environmental stewardship into an accessible format. The foundation, which has spent 15 years promoting the benefits of green space through partnerships with organizations like the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and various educational institutions, intends for the series to inspire viewers to reimagine their own outdoor areas. Episodes are available for streaming via the official TurfMutt website and their YouTube channel.
