The survey of 519 daily prescription glasses wearers reveals a concerning trend of procrastination regarding ocular health. Beyond the high rate of people ignoring potential prescription shifts, 79.4% of respondents reported symptoms tied to screen use, while 56.1% admitted that financial constraints delayed their decision to seek updated eyewear.
Dr. Norman A. Saffra, a neuro-ophthalmologist and Clinical Professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, emphasizes that these delays carry risks beyond simple blurriness. Because one eye often compensates for the gradual decline of the other, patients frequently overlook early indicators of systemic issues, including diabetes and high blood pressure. Dr. Saffra notes that routine prescription updates serve as critical health screenings that can preserve vision long-term.
