NICB and Honk Partner to Curb Towing Fraud

Predatory towing and salvage scams face a new digital barrier as the National Insurance Crime Bureau joins forces with technology platform Honk. By integrating real-time roadside data with insurance intelligence, the partnership aims to identify suspicious service activity before it evolves into widespread financial crime for carriers and consumers.

The collaboration links the NICB’s investigative reach with Honk’s nationwide network of service providers. Honk’s platform, which tracks roadside assistance lifecycles, provides granular visibility into market trends that often mask illicit practices. This data will now flow directly into the NICB’s intelligence consortium, allowing for faster identification of bad actors within the towing and impound sectors.

Tim Slater, Chief Operating Officer at NICB, stated that combining these respective networks strengthens protections across the vehicle services ecosystem. Matt Bijur, President of Honk, added that the initiative serves to protect the reputation of honest service providers while rooting out predatory schemes that inflate costs for policyholders. The partnership emphasizes proactive detection, converting isolated information into actionable intelligence for law enforcement and insurance investigators.
