NYU Langone Recruits Trio of Specialists to Lead Orthopedic Centers
NYU Langone Orthopedics is expanding its sports medicine capabilities by appointing three surgeons to direct specialized treatment centers effective October 1. The strategic hires aim to bolster the institution’s research and clinical outcomes for patients suffering from complex hip and knee conditions, ranging from cartilage repair to joint preservation.
Dr. Gomoll arrives from the Hospital for Special Surgery with an extensive background in cartilage repair and innovative implants, while Dr. Gwathmey transitions from the University of Virginia Health System, where he established a high-volume hip preservation program. Joseph D. Zuckerman, chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, noted that these appointments reflect the institution’s broader goal of maintaining its top-tier status in orthopedic care. Currently ranked No. 2 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, NYU Langone continues to prioritize its large-scale residency programs and clinical research initiatives as it integrates these specialists into its sports medicine division.
