Liontrust expands multi-asset reach with Hawksmoor acquisition

UK asset manager Liontrust has agreed to acquire the fund management and portfolio services arms of Hawksmoor for an initial £6 million in cash. The deal, which includes two potential £2 million performance-based payments, adds £1.9 billion in assets under management and integrates a specialized investment team into the firm’s existing structure.

The transaction marks a strategic push to diversify Liontrust’s offerings for financial advisors. By absorbing Hawksmoor’s valuation-led, bottom-up investment process, Liontrust gains exposure to listed alternatives and investment trusts that differ from its current portfolio. Ben Conway, who currently leads the Hawksmoor fund management division, will join the Liontrust multi-asset team to oversee the transition of these mandates.

Liontrust expects the acquisition to be immediately earnings-accretive upon completion, slated for December 31, 2026. The purchase, funded entirely through existing cash reserves, also brings Richard Philbin’s managed portfolio services into the fold. This expansion reflects broader consolidation trends within the UK wealth management sector as firms seek to capture niche market share and scale their client bases.
