The Jason Foundation Marks 29 Years of Youth Suicide Prevention

Born from the 1997 tragedy of 16-year-old Jason Flatt, The Jason Foundation today observes its 29th anniversary. What started as a local kitchen-table initiative in Hendersonville, Tennessee, has evolved into a nationwide network providing suicide awareness resources across all 50 states to prevent similar family losses.

The organization operates on a fundamental principle of accessibility, offering all educational programs and support materials to schools, families, and community groups at no cost. By removing financial barriers, the foundation ensures that educators, coaches, and parents have the tools necessary to recognize warning signs and guide youth toward professional intervention.

Clark Flatt, president of the foundation, credits the organization’s longevity to a collective national effort rather than individual achievement. As the group approaches its third decade, it continues to mobilize a vast network of volunteers and affiliate offices to expand its reach. The foundation remains focused on its core mission: equipping communities with the resources required to address the crisis of youth and young adult suicide.
