The brand arrived at its current iteration only after 172 failed attempts, eventually settling on Batch 173. This meticulous development process earned the spirit American Whiskey of the Year at the 2026 International Non-Alcoholic Competition, alongside a silver medal for taste and a double gold for design at the 2026 Summer PR%F Awards. By focusing on the weight of the rocks glass and the complexity of the pour, co-founders Sean Sailes and Jason Nichols aim to keep non-drinkers seated at the bar alongside their peers.
Drybridge No. 86 Challenges the Ritual of Sober Drinking
For the veteran-owned San Diego startup Drybridge No. 86, the non-alcoholic movement is not about abstinence but about preserving the culture of the bar. As Sober October begins, the brand is leveraging three 2026 industry awards to prove that a premium whiskey experience does not require proof of alcohol.
"Drinking less does not mean you suddenly stop liking bars, whiskey glasses, live music, or staying out late," said Nichols. The product is currently available through the company website, Amazon, and select San Diego venues, positioning itself as a direct response to the limitations of traditional mocktails. By stripping away the alcohol while maintaining the atmosphere of a night out, the company hopes to shift the narrative of Sober October from a month of social isolation to one of sustained engagement.
