Aroa Biosurgery trial confirms Symphony efficacy in diabetic foot ulcers

A multicenter study published in the International Wound Journal reveals that adding the Symphony tissue regeneration scaffold to standard treatment significantly boosts healing rates for diabetic foot ulcers. The trial involved 143 patients across 10 U.S. sites, providing clinical evidence for the product’s role in treating complex, chronic wounds.

Patients receiving Symphony alongside standard care achieved a 55% complete wound closure rate within 12 weeks, outperforming the 35% rate observed in the control group. Beyond higher success rates, the treatment reduced the mean time to closure by 7.8 days, narrowing the recovery window to 65.4 days compared to 73.2 days for standard care alone. The findings hold statistical significance, with p-values of 0.039 and 0.041 respectively.

Lead investigator Dr. David Armstrong noted that the results validate the combination of an extracellular matrix bioscaffold with high molecular weight hyaluronic acid. The trial focused on Wagner Grade 1 and 2 ulcers, which involve damage ranging from full skin thickness to deeper structures like tendons and ligaments. For Aroa Biosurgery, the data serves as a critical milestone, positioning Symphony among the select group of cellular and matrix-like products backed by Level I clinical evidence. CEO Brian Ward emphasized that this robust data will support the company’s efforts to meet evolving U.S. reimbursement requirements and clinical adoption standards.
