Elizabeth R. Koch Brings The Perception Box Adventure to Boston

On November 14, the SoWa Power Station will host The Perception Box Adventure, a sold-out immersive event designed to expose the hidden mental frameworks that dictate how we interpret reality. Led by Elizabeth R. Koch, the evening uses neuroscience and interactive storytelling to examine the narratives we project onto the world.

Participants at the Boston event will engage with a collection of curated objects and trinkets, an exercise intended to reveal how personal histories, memories, and unconscious assumptions color objective reality. By inviting attendees to analyze their immediate reactions to these items, the program demonstrates that meaning is not an inherent quality of the objects themselves, but a construction of the human mind. Koch, founder of Unlikely Collaborators, describes the experience as a way to catch our minds in the act of storytelling, fostering a sense of space between an event and our automatic emotional response to it.

The collaboration marks a deepening partnership between Unlikely Collaborators and The Jar, a Boston-based organization that has focused on art-driven community building since 2019. Guy Ben-Aharon, executive director of The Jar, notes that the event encourages attendees to turn their attention inward, effectively using the collective setting to challenge individual biases. By making the abstract Perception Box framework tangible, the organizers hope to replace rigid patterns of thought with curiosity and greater openness toward others, suggesting that interpersonal connection begins with a clearer understanding of one's own internal lens.
