L8P8 Debuts Tru8 Connect to Replace Phone Numbers With Usernames

Giving out a personal phone number is increasingly a security liability, exposing users to unwanted tracking and data leaks. Glendale-based L8P8 Inc. is addressing this friction with Tru8 Connect, a new messaging feature integrated into the Loop8 app that allows users to communicate exclusively through usernames, keeping contact details private.

The system mandates end-to-end encryption for all interactions. Messages transit through Loop8 servers, which lack the capacity to read the content and purge every message immediately upon delivery. Once received, the data resides only on the local devices, requiring biometric authentication like Face ID or a fingerprint to access. To further minimize the digital footprint, the app automatically deletes all messages eight days after transmission.

Zarik Megerdichian, founder and CEO of L8P8, noted that the platform is designed to eliminate the risks associated with permanent chat logs. If a user decides to terminate a conversation, blocking the other party ensures no lingering access because the contact never possessed the user's phone number. The app also enforces transparency by notifying all participants if a screenshot or screen recording is captured during a session. Available for users aged 16 and older, Tru8 Connect joins other biometric-secured tools within the Loop8 ecosystem, including a password manager and an authenticator.
