Roam Charging Offers Businesses Cash to Replace Outdated EV Hardware

UK-based Roam Charging has launched a financial incentive program paying businesses up to £1,000 for every non-compliant or ageing EV charger they replace. The initiative targets hotels, workplaces, and residential developments struggling with faulty infrastructure, offering a path to modern, fully managed equipment without upfront capital expenditure.

The scheme provides a £500 payment for each single-socket charger replaced and £1,000 for each dual-socket unit. In exchange for entering a long-term lease or site agreement, organizations receive new, OCPP-compliant hardware and standard installation at no cost. Beyond the initial payment, participating sites transition to a fully managed service model, where Roam assumes responsibility for maintenance, monitoring, and ongoing support.

James Randall, CEO of Roam, noted that many organizations are currently saddled with early-generation equipment that no longer meets user needs or regulatory standards. By offloading the management burden, site operators avoid the rising costs associated with repairing obsolete hardware. Furthermore, the company commits to recycling all removed units as WEEE waste, ensuring that valuable materials are recovered rather than discarded in landfills. This approach allows property managers to modernize their charging networks while securing potential revenue streams through the new partnership.
